Climate Change a National Priority, Says PM Kakar

Islamabad: On Wednesday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to addressing climate change and called on the international community to take action as well. During the launch of the Monsoon Tree Plantation drive in Islamabad, Prime Minister Kakar emphasized that disrupting the natural ecosystem, including pollution, is both a crime and a sin. He stated that such disruptions lead to natural disasters like floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes.

Prime Minister Kakar highlighted the importance of treating climate change as a national priority. He appealed to political parties, civil society, and intellectuals to collaborate in making climate change a central topic in all discussions. He stressed that this commitment should be evident in the actions of all government and state institutions. Despite contributing less than one percent to global greenhouse gas emissions, Pakistan is significantly affected by climate change, the Prime Minister noted. He explained that pollution and environmental degradation can lead to severe consequences, including natural disasters.
