Islamabad, 04-06, September 2023, A three-day Annual review and Planning workshop conducted by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC), in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Pakistan, as part of the Upscaling Green Pakistan Program, Phase-1.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC), in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Pakistan, recently concluded a three-day Annual Review and Planning Workshop for the 2023-24 period. This event, integral to Phase 1 of the Upscaling Green Pakistan Program, took place at an Islamabad hotel.
The workshop had the participation of senior forestry and wildlife professionals from all over the country. Provincial Project Directors overseeing the Forestry and Wildlife components of the Upscaling Green Pakistan Program, along with their respective teams, also attended the event.
The primary objectives of the workshop were to review progress, address ongoing challenges, and extract lessons from the program’s implementation thus far. It also focused on planning and prioritizing activities for the 2023-2024 year and developing a long-term strategy for the next four years to further expand the Green Pakistan initiative.
Experts from IUCN, FAO, and WWF Pakistan worked closely with MoCC&EC to devise strategies for the program's future interventions.
In support of the independent third-party monitoring of the Upscaling Green Pakistan Program, the IUCN/FAO/WWF Consortium compiled a detailed reference guide titled "Guidelines and Lists of Suitable Tree Species for Plantation in Different Silvo-Ecological Zones of Pakistan." This guide, created with input from senior forestry professionals across Pakistan’s provinces and territories, was validated by subject experts during a two-day national workshop in Islamabad. On September 6, 2023, the Ministry of Climate Change, the Project Management Unit of the Green Pakistan Programme, and representatives from the independent third-party monitoring Consortium jointly launched these guidelines.
Mr. Faiz Ali Khan, the National Project Director of the UGPP, emphasized that the Green Pakistan Programme will be the primary beneficiary of these newly developed guidelines. He urged all provincial project directors and their teams to adopt this document for future plantation initiatives.
